How to Stay Inspired to Blog

If you are a blogger you have most likely had that moment when you opened up a blank  post and that little cursor stairs at you.  The little blinking line taunts you, “write something…anything!”  Or maybe you are like me and you just sit in your craft corner and stare at all the craft materials and can’t find that perfect project that inspires you.  I especially feel this in the summer.  The weather is beautiful, there are no holidays, none of my friends or family have birthdays, and no one needs 20 decorative bowls.  I find it so hard to find an inspired project.  I finally feel that I have gotten over my inspiration hump so I want to share with you

How to Stay Inspired to Blog

The funny thing about readers is that they can tell if you are not inspired by the post or project you are sharing with them.  They know if you are being real.  Because of all this you have to stay inspired to blog, to share that information with some one else. Really, if you can’t get inspired by blogging, don’t force  yourself to keep working on it.  Whether you hope to make money with your blog or its just a hobby you want to enjoy the experience.

Take Care of Yourself

One of the best ways to keep your inspiration fresh is to make sure you have enough energy to be inspired.  Are you getting enough sleep?  Eating well?  Excising?  We all have life stress that makes us less then the top of our game.  Many bloggers work full-time, have children/families, have pets, own homes, and all the other things that can add stress and complicate our lives.  If we don’t take care of ourselves then how are we ever going to find time and energy to blog?  Step 1 of how to stay inspired to blog: take care of yourself!

Live Your Life

Blogging is very unique.  There isn’t anything else that requires you to have a life to be successful.  Blogging really is about what YOU are doing and the things that YOU are interested in.  When you blog you are selling yourself and your ideas.  If you have a choice between working on a post you aren’t inspired by and doing something fun and exciting, go have fun.  Maybe your experience will help you find a project you want to blog about.  A great example was when the hubby’s sister came to visit, so my sister joined us all for a trip to Disneyland.  Our trip inspired me to share my 10 Tips for Your Summer Trip to Disneyland.  I took the time to have fun with my family and led an inspired post that was real, unique, and relevant to real life.  I also make sure that I schedule some “no blog” days in my week (usually Friday and Saturday).  This way I don’t burn out on blogging, still enjoy my life, and experience new things to blog about.  There will always be more things on my blog to-do list, so I choose to just take the time to enjoy my life outside of blogging. How to Stay Inspired to Blog

Work on a Project with Others

One of the best things about blogging is making friends with other bloggers in the community.  Working with other bloggers is a great way to be inspired and motivate you to get creative.  One of my favorite ways I have seen other bloggers work together was a Thrift Store Maker-over Blog Hop.  It was such a great idea.  The host found great thrift store items and mailed them to different bloggers.  The bloggers then had to create something new and fun with the item they received!  What a great idea and I will be doing this at some point.  :)  Find some of your blog friends in your niche and see if they want to work on something with you.  I would suggest having some type of idea of what you want to work on together, since you will be more likely to have the other bloggers willing to join you.  This is a perfect time of year to also start planning your holiday posts with other bloggers.  Halloween will be here before we know it.  😉

Look at Something Outside Your Comfort Zone

One of the best ways to be inspired is find something outside of the norm.  Do you always post about parenting tips?  Try posting some relationship advice or a fun hot-spot you like to go to when the kids aren’t with you.  New ideas may just push you into exploring a new niche that you hadn’t considered before.  This will also help you become a well rounded blogger and shows companies you may want to partner with that you can be inspired by things outside of your normal framework.  I will still try to find something that fits with the flow and feeling of your blog but challenging yourself is always a good idea!  When I decided to write my first blog tips post I found that it was an area that I was really inspired by.

Explore a New Product

Sometimes we get in a rut of using the same product in each of our posts or projects (I suffer from the Pick Your Plum disease, that’s for sure) so find something new and see if that will inspire you.  Do you have a food blog?  Try stopping by a local farmers market and see what fun items they have.  A great example of this is when I purchased my liquid copper leafing.  I have never used it before but as soon as I opened the jar, the inspiration kept flowing!  Now I have created some of my most popular posts.

  2. I’m so with you Brianna. I’m too involved in my summer to craft. I feel the need but the inspiration. What i need to get is more real and be willing to share my every day humdrum in case something inspires others.

  3. This was just what I needed to read! It’s been hard to blog for me this summer because we are doing a huge house repair and re-do. Plus it’s hard to post recipes when you’re living off of Tv Dinners cause you don;t have a kitchen. LOL!

    This was a great post!

  4. Thanks for the inspiration tips. So far I don’t have too much trouble finding things to write about since I have a lot of creative interests and do a lot of projects I just have trouble finding time to fit it all in – along with the promoting and the link parties, etc.

  6. Fantastic tips! I especially agree with the Live Your Life bit. When I stay parked in front of my laptop I miss all the beauty and fun around me. Pinned to the Fridays Unfolded Link Board, and thanks for sharing!

  7. I like how you mentioned taking care of ourselves. It is SO important to make sure we aren’t running ourselves thin. I work in a pretty stressful field so writing is my outlet, but sometimes I get too exhausted and I can’t write good material. Over time, I have learned to balance everything pretty good, but it’s still a day to day process.. Thanks for sharing this!

  8. Really great tips! Will definitely refer back to this when I’m feeling those little patches of blogger’s block :) Thanks so much for linking up at Link It or Lump It!

  9. Bree, I always end up here, one way or another! Great post. I think taking care of ourselves is so important. You are right about blogging being different than other jobs. There are so many things about blogging that I love — it does encourage me to live and to think about what I am doing daily. These things help me become a better blogger, but I have to admit that I need to gather a little more organization to my blogging. I get sidetracked so easily!! Thanks for another great post!

    • Thank you Elizabeth! Your kind comments mean so much to me. Writing this post really helped remind me how much I love blogging. :) I think I will have to write a post about blog organization next. It seems like an issue a lot of people suffer from. Continued good luck on your blogging journey.

  10. How awesome is that retreat! Its only about an hour from me. Going to look into it! Thanks so much for linking up at the Creative Sparks Link Party. We are live again today so stop by and link up!

  12. Thank you so much for this fabulous post! So many wonderful tips and perfect timing too. I happen to be struggling some with motivation and how to blog when I have little time to do it in. You did such a good job! We would love it if you would join in on our Awesome Things Tuesday Link Party!

  13. Thanks so much for these helpful tips. I agree that we must take care of ourselves physically, or we won’t be any good mentally. I also like the idea of taking days off and just enjoying life. Nothing inspires writing like living. Thank you for the reminder that our readers will know when we are enjoying our subject and when we are just trying to get a post done.

    • I am glad you enjoyed it Heather. I think we all need that reminder every once in a while and I would rather it be from a post rather then one of my followers mentioning it! AH!! :)

  14. Great tips for staying inspired! Thank you for sharing this post at City of Creative Dream’s City of Links last Friday! I appreciate you taking the time to party with me. Hope to see you again this week :)
