Quick Flower Pot Gift

We have had the strangest winter in San Diego this year.  Typically, I am super excited for Spring and for warmth, but this year I really miss winter and being able to wear warm sweaters.  This winter was very hot and dry, so California is in a massive drought.  Thankfully, succulents and cacti are really popular right now.  When bumblebreeblog husband and I went  on a staycation for Valentine’s day, we found this great shop with super fun drought resistant plants.

I found this super fun living rock cacti.  At some point a beautiful desert flower will bloom right out of the middle…I hope.   I knew that this would be perfect for my mom, so I had to get it for her.  I couldn’t just hand her this small rock-like plant, so I wanted to create something that could hold it.

I started by purchasing a small terracotta pot from Michaels with a matching saucer.

Using my washi tape from Pick Your Plum, I decorated the lip of the flower pot.  I wanted the design to be simple, modern, and clean.  I love the way it turned out!

Now, it was ready to plant the sweet living rock inside the terracotta pot, and  then it was ready for giving.

My mom loved it!

It goes perfect with all her other mismatched succulent planters.  My favorite one is her yellow ceramic chicken with 4 different succulents in it.

  1. So cute! I love washi tape projects :o)

  2. So interesting, I’ve never heard of those. These would also be a good house plant for us in Colorado who (usually) have spring late. We are having great weather lately but we can’t plant anything because we could get a random freeze through April and kill all our seedlings.

  3. I love the washi tape – so cherry! What a cool plant. I’ve never seen anything like that before.

  4. What a sweet gift idea! I just love washi tape, too! Thanks for sharing it with us this week at Monday Funday!

    Take care,

    Trish
